The actor Ichikawa Kuzo III who plays the servant in Ushiwakamaru Serenading by Joruri Kunisada II 1865

An excellent Japanese Woodblock Print  of 1865 created by Joruri Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) in 1865, depicts Ushiwakamaru's servant kneeling with a lantern in his hand, emblazoned with the seal of the Minamoto clan, watching cautiously.


The flowering cherry tree frames the evening sky over a fence formed by a hedge.

The actor who plays the servant is Ichikawa Kuzo III, who formed up to five generations of kabiqui actors.
